Ben Jesup and I headed out for a mid-day walk, with neither of us having checked MD-Osprey lately, and thus unaware of the recent shorebird sightings in the mostly empty Reflecting Pool. Anyway, with the help of a tip from another birder, we found them. Yesterday's Stilt Sandpiper was gone but some consolation was offered by a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER. The "supporting cast" remains largely the same:
Semipalmated Plover
Killdeer
Least Sandpiper (around 20)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (2)
Spotted Sandpiper (3)
Solitary Sandpiper (2)
Lesser Yellowlegs
Despite a very loud power washing operation at the DC WWI Memorial, we managed to find a few other nice birds around, mostly north of the Reflecting Pool. Warblers included Yellow, Chestnut-sided, Black & White, Yellow-rumped (2 females), Blackpoll (2), and an American Redstart. There was one Green Heron in the (also mostly empty) Constitution Gardens pond, and a singing Baltimore Oriole in the pines near the Korean War memorial.
