My general impression this spring has been that there are fewer House
Wrens at McKee-Beshers WMA (Montgomery Co) than usual. My only numerical
data is last year my high count was 11 for the first two weeks in May and
this year it is 7 although I am doing a lot more field work this year. Once
I take my breeding surveys I'll have a better answer.
I suspect that House Wrens suffered higher than normal mortality in
the southern US because of the harsh winter similar to what happened after
the brutal winter of 1976-77.
