Hello everyone,
Despite the light rain yesterday morning (5/18), Little Bennett Regional Park turned out to be lovely for warblers.
Warbler highlights along Kingsley Trail (up the hill past the schoolhouse) included Bay-breasted, Cape May, Canada, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-and-White and Blackpoll. A lovely male Scarlet Tanager with bright red wing bars was singing in this area -- this plumage variant has been mentioned and photographed from a couple of different sources, but I had never seen that before.
Warbler highlights along Froggy Hollow Trail included Canada, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Worm-eating, and Kentucky. Two Swainson's Thrushes were warming up with their gorgeous songs.
Also a couple of highlights from this past weekend (Sunday 5/16) that are worth mentioning, to add to other Little Bennett reports: three Orchard Orioles (two males and one female) were present along Browning Run Trail, close to the parking area along Clarksburg Road. A male Rose-breasted Grosbeak sang briefly where Hyattstown Mill Road crosses the Browning Run tributary, and then moved off toward the main stream.
