The weather seemed good for searching for those
rare-in-Montgomery-county shorebirds, and I found a few along the
canal. No Whimbrels, but at Summit Hall Turf Farm there was a flock of
eight SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS (all-time county high number on eBird), a
Greater Yellowlegs, and four distant peep (probably Least). At Patton
Turf Farm there were eight BLACKBELLIED PLOVERS, a Solitary Sandpiper,
and a Killdeer (making it a three plover day). Also tried the Germantown
soccerplex pond, but the water level had risen about a foot and all the
mud flats were underwater.

A welcome sight at Hughes Hollow was a female Hooded Merganser with 12
young.

Good birding!
