Howdy,

My internet connection is painfully slow, so I'll post the digest version of the last three days' highlight.

19th- At Elms Beach Park, St. Mary's Co., there were 12 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, one LEAST, and three SPOTTED along the jetties beside the playground. A CHUCK-WILL'S-WIDOW was vocal near Scheible's Restaurant at the terminus of Wynne Road near dusk.

20th- St. Mary's River: I canoed about seven miles from the put-in south of Leonardtown to St. Mary's College (2pm-5pm). Before reaching the broader sections of SM's River, I paddled by two BARRED OWLS in the woods. There were no other significant birds (afternoon doldrums), and a GREATER YELLOWLEGS was the sole shorebird on the banks of the marshes. Back home, a COMMON NIGHTHAWK flew over the yard while I was wrestling the boat off the car. There were at least four BARRED OWLS cacophonous for about 40 minutes in our yard well after midnight.

21st- Calvert Cliffs: While waiting for a couple of friends to show up for a hike to the beach, a BRONZED (George Hamilton) COMMON GRACKLE alit on a shrub by the pond near the entrance to the trail (photo'ed). Two RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS are certainly still there, along with an ACADIAN FLYCATCHER, WOOD THRUSH, several NORTHERN PARULA, a BLACKTHROATED-GREEN WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, and YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT.

Cheers,
Matt
