Perhaps as compensation for not being able to see the Black-billed
Cuckoo reported yesterday by John Pangborn at Blue Mash Nature Trail
in Montgomery County, I found a few nice peep in the large pond that
is on the landfill property and viewable from outside the chain-link fence.

2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and 4 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were feeding on
the very far side of the pond with a couple of Killdeer-- a scope is
a must under these conditions. The flank streaking on the
White-rumps was pretty easy to see.

Otherwise, Blue Mash was pretty quiet, and cooler than of
late. There are still at least 3 Willow Flycatchers singing, and a
single Blue Grosbeak male. Common Yellowthroats and Gray Catbirds
all over the place. I heard a Yellow-breasted Chat briefly but did
not see it. Leslie Starr and Joe Turner, who were at Blue Mash
earlier than I was, said they had seen an Orange variant Chat before
I got there.
