Today, June 10, a White-Throated Sparrow started singing from our back
yard in central Prince George's County. Lynette heard it this morning
and both of us had a chance to enjoy it this evening. This is my first
White-throated Sparrow for the coastal plain in June.
We never saw the bird, but I believe the chance of it having been a
mimic is remote. This evening it sang about a dozen phrases, all nearly
identical, and each separated from the previous by a minute or two.
Yes, it is possible it is some other species who learned the wrong song
while still a chick but if so, it is equally lost. Hopefully, it will
stay in the area long enough for one of us to see it.
