I tried for the Upland Sandpiper on Oland Rd this afternoon around 2:45. I
scanned the field with bins, to start, for about 15 minutes with no luck,
when I noticed a small dark figure right along the far edge of the grass,
just to the right of the two distant trees, as viewed from a spot just
behind the road sign on the south side of Oland Rd. It was hard to make out
detail with the bins. The bird I saw was not moving around actively which
made me think it might not be the Sandpiper, but I ran back to my car to get
my scope to be sure. Of course, I couldn't relocate the bird! So...did I see
it? I don't think so, after a grand total of about 30 minutes of scanning.
Saw plenty of Meadowlarks and a single Purple Martin. I'm debating trying
again in the morning...
