Morning all,
A quick walk around the yard yesterday morning since I had to be on the road early. My best "find" was a singing Grasshopper Sparrow, barely audible (to my aging ears at least) from just over the fence in the neighbors hay field (just recently mowed). I did not see it however. Last night, we walked around the yard, picking raspberries and checking out our huge stand of blackberries, when I remembered about the sparrow. I went back to the house and fetched the bins and the Ipod and portable speakers. When I got back, we searched the Ipod for the right song, hit "play", and almost immedietely got the sparrow the fly onto our fence. Alli got a quick glimpse, then it was my turn. Hit "play" again, and this time the little gem was kind enough to land in the grass of our yard, near the blackberries!

Over the weekend, I had a single Green Heron fly over the yard (rare here), then on Sunday evening heard a Yellow-billed Cuckoo calling from the neighbors wood (first of the season here). And saw another (or the same) Green Heron yesterday morning again. And we are hearing a few Wood Thrushes in the evenings now too.
