A friend of mine who is a kayaker and casual birder saw and photographed 3
BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCKS yesterday, 6/28, while kayaking at Assowoman
WMA in southern Delaware. The exact location was on Miller Creek near a
small residential area just east of Double Bridges Road. This is very near the
MD line and not far from where the Roseate Spoonbill appeared last year.
The birds don't appear to be banded, but the photos aren't clear enough to
be certain.
It was in June of 2006 that the mid-Atlantic had a mini invasion of BBWD,
so it may be time to be on the lookout again.
