My morning walk around Schoolhouse Pond was rewarded with good views of a Common Moorhen. The bird was towards the back center of the pond in the thick vegetation. This is where the Wood Ducks are typically, either on a log or the mudflats. The moorhen was near two pairs of Wood Ducks. I saw it from the rear observation platform as I scanned the vegetation. I probably would not have noticed it had it not raised its head (with the bright red bill) at just the right time.
