Howdy folks! I was away this week and missed all the excitement around Jug Bay. I went out for a look around Jug Bay this eve (PG side, Patuxent River Park)), but found no ibis, tern, or kite (wishful thinking, but sometimes chance favors a prepared mind!). Sadly, my potential best bird was unconfirmed. I thought I heard a Pied-billed Grebe, but it only vocalized once and only made a few calls (not a full call). This would be a great find here for summer.

I will post full observations to eBird later, but there was clearly post breedign dispersal going on. Lots of swallows (5 species), grackles, and starlings.

Most exciting was a large flock of Purple Martins in a tree. I counted 55, perhaps a high count for me in MD, but certainly the highest I've had at Jug Bay.

Regarding part two of the subject line, this morning I stopped at the PG County Recycle (Convenience) Pad on Brown Station Rd, and had a very quick look at the pond. Saw the same nasty aggregation of Black Vultures all over the pond's shore (reported last week). Scattered among them were a lot of Killdeer, 7 Least Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, and 2 Solitary Sandpipers.

Also present were 6 Great Egrets, 2 GB Herons, and a few Geese and Mallards.

Cheers!
