Re: Short-billed Dowitcher continues at Blue Mash, July 11--BB Cuckoo also

I also saw the previously reported Black-billed Cuckoo in the same 
general area.  The bird I saw was a juvenile -- buffy throat and 
greenish eye-ring.  Not sure if it is a sign of BBCU breeding there or 
post-breeding dispersal.

Also, I was surprised at how low the water level was in the Dowitcher 
pond (behind the fence).  Looks like the pond is on the verge of 
disappearing entirely.  Wonder if that is the result of management or 
just the weather.  There were many Great Blue Herons in the vicinity 
doubtless taking advantage of an easy meal.  In any event, makes for 
some excellent shorebird habitat for the time being.
