I stopped at the north end of Liberty Lake this morning to see if there was any shorebird habitat. There were mud flats on the north side of the Route 140 bridge. Access is from the small pull off next to the guard rail on Glen Falls Road immediately north of Route 140 on the Baltimore County side of the lake and walking down the roadbed of the old Westminster Pike to the point where it diappears into the lake. Most of the shorebird habitat is on the Carroll county side though the county line at this point runs diagonally across the water from the west end of the bridge. Birds present today were:
Canada Goose 1
Wood Duck 4
Mallard 3
Great Blue Heron 1
Green Heron 3
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON 1 juvenile, Baltimore side only
Killdeer 7
Spotted Sandpiper 1 adult
Lesser Yellowlegs 2
Least Sandpiper 1, apparently an adult with muddied legs still identifiable by plumage
Cliff Swallow 20 or more
