Hello all,

I stopped by Blue Mash (Montgomery County) this afternoon on my way home from work related things in Silver Spring. Because it seems they're paving every road in that county right now (during rush hour), I didn't arrive until 1 PM, running late for all my appointments. Anyway, I did a rather quick, short tour of both ponds, as the humidity was unbearable. I did not see any Short-billed Dowitchers on either pond, just lots of Killdeer, a few Least Sands and a single Spotted Sand. A couple of Grt Blue Herons, and a Mallard family (and C. Geese) were the only other birds at the water. I did manage to see or hear 33 species in the hour I was there, including Yellow-billed Cuckoo (seen/heard), Yellow-breasted Chat (heard), Black-billed Cuckoo (heard), Willow Flycatcher (seen/heard), Great-crested Flycatcher (seen), Baltimore Oriole (female seen), E. Kingbird, E. Bluebird, C. Yellowthroat, E. Towhee (all seen), in the worst heat of the day, proving to me once again the worth of stopping at Blue Mash nearly any time of day or year.

If anyone is interested, the elderberries are in fruit; there is a small patch right along the main trail. They make a delicious wine!!
