            AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS ROOF NESTING
I’ve heard from several persons about this after I forwarded the recent MDOSPREY report of possible roof nesting oystercatchers in Ocean City, MD.
John Weske says they’ve nested for several years on the roof of the Carteret County, NC, Civic Center, sometimes fighting their reflection in a window. His friend, Janie Jones, who works there, confirms this. This is in Morehead City, I think.
Alex Wilke, of the Virginia Coast Reserve of The Nature Conservancy, believes there are several records of roof nesting in Florida. She is not aware of any AMOYs in Virginia up on the roofs.
Dave Brinker says in 1987 or 1988 AMOYs were seen several times on a parapet of the Ocean City, MD, Convention Center, has slides of this. Nesting was suspected.
Anyone in the OC area … it would be good to keep a look out for these “Alpine Club” breeders!
Best regards. – Harry Armistead, Philadelphia.
