Hi All,

Nancy and I were in Rock Hall for the afternoon for shop-sitting at
Eastern Neck and an evening concert. We had a bit of time between so we
decided to check out Chesapeake Farms. The main HQ viewing pond is dry
with a nice greensward of weedy grass coming up. We had 8 Killdeer and
an unexpected UPLAND SANDPIPER. The sandpiper kept to the grassy areas
sometimes revealing only its long neck and head. Also present were 2
Eastern Meadowlarks feeding in the grass.

We also checked the millpond at St. Pauls on Ricauds Branch Road nearby.
We found the pond drained with a lot of dead fish (some lunker bass got
stranded). The pond has attracted some shorebirds and herons. Without a
spotting scope we were able to identify 40 Least Sandpipers, 2 Pectoral
Sandpipers, and 4 Leasser Yellwlegs but its possible a couple of species
escaped our notice. There were also 11 Great Blue Herons, 5 Great
Egrets, and 4 Green Herons there. Definitely worth checking for other
herons and shorebirds. Vultures and eagles were also taking advantage of
the smelly windfall.

Good birding,
