Saturday I went to Kingman Lake to look for waders. From the first footbridge I
saw one SNOWY EGRET roosting in the marsh just east of the RFK parking lot along
with the other usual suspects.

After scanning the marsh, I crossed the first footbridge onto Heritage Island
and the second onto Kingman Island. Just left after the second bridge is a nice
scrubby clearing where Blue Grosbeaks and Indigo Buntings are usually found. I
checked out the Grosbeak tree at the N edge of the clearing and caught a glimpse
of bold yellow breast in a clearing in the bushes. Closer examination showed
strong white eye rings, white belly, a uniform brownish back, longish tail, and
tanager-like black beak -- a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT.

Steve Hersey and Tom Jones were at Kingman this morning (Aug 1) and refound the
Chat.
