After returning from a trip to Smith Island, we decided to look for the
Blue-winged Warblers which had been seen by others in the morning. We spent
about an hour in the wooded / brushy area of Point Lookout State Park north
of the picnic area and found not only a couple of Blue-wingeds but also a
pale but unmistakable Canada Warbler and an amazing number of American
Redstarts. At one point we had two breeding-plumage males and five female or
young (sorry - need to learn the difference) Redstarts bathing in a puddle on
the trail. A female Hooded Warbler was in a nearby sapling and two
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds were hovering over the puddle. A very bright yellow
oriole, presumed to be a Baltimore, was perched on top of a tree but didn't stay
for photos. Our eBird list is below.
