Hi Everyone,

On "the way home" from a meeting at UMBC yesterday (10 Aug 2010), I was glad to be able to catch up on some of the recent sightings from PG and Calvert counties. Fellow county listers: please note that I was working on a summer weekday; well, at least part of the day. :)

The pond at the Brown Station Rd recycling center (PG Co) continued to host a SNOWY EGRET and several PECTORAL SANDPIPERS.

North Beach (Calvert Co) had 5 TRICOLORED HERONS, 1 GREATER and 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, at least 5 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, over 150 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, and a few LEAST SANDPIPERS. I did NOT see the YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON.

At about 7 pm, many of the North Beach SNOWY EGRETS flew from the marsh to the bay and then flew north up the bayshore into Anne Arundel County. At 7:10 pm, one of the TRICOLORED HERONS did the same thing. So, if you can't make it to Swan Harbor during visiting hours, North Beach may be a good bet for getting an AA Co Tricolored Heron. Four MUTE SWANS swam from Calvert Co into AA Co before I left at about 7:25 pm.

Oh, and I closed out CEDAR WAXWING (#54) in Calvert Co while at North Beach. Yippee!

Have fun,
