Hi Leo,

Thanks for the question. The other day Sam Dyke mentioned that he had 15 (!) Upland Sandpipers at the Salisbury Airport. They have been in for a while now.

For those who haven't been here before...

I view the Uppies from Airport Rd. Driving south on Airport Rd from Mt Hermon Rd (MD Rt 350), continue past the entrance to the airport terminal. After the terminal entrance, there will be some buildings with small paved parking areas on the left. The little parking areas can be used as locations to look through the chainlink fence toward the runways. Sometimes the birds can be distant and partially or completely hidden in the grass. So a scope and a little patience may be needed. (Mt Hermon Rd roughly parallels US Rt 50 east of downtown Salisbury).

Surprisingly, I've never been interrogated by airport security for pointing a spotting scope at their runways. I think they know about us. But just in case, be prepared to give your Upland Sandpiper talk.

Thanks to Sam Dyke, Carol Broderick, Mike Walsh, and others for first telling me how to view the Uplands at the airport.

Have fun,

Ron Gutberlet
Salisbury, MD

Thinking about this weekend, I wondered if anyone has
seen upland sandpipers at the Salisbury Airport this year?
