I am writing for a living now, and today have published two items of interest to birders.  Both relate to Russia, literally a half a world away from Maryland, but I thought some list readers would like to have the opportunity to check in. 

First, today's NASA MODIS Image of the day speaks of the effects of the terrible Russian wildfires on birds.  (read the whole caption):

Second, Jon Ranson, a Maryland birder, is on a scientific expedition in Siberia.  A few posts mention birds, so it might be enjoyable to list readers.
