Les,

Sue and I ran into Danny Poet at Terrapin Park and spent a few hours
Saturday morning and had a good fallout of migrants. 9 species of warblers
seen included 3 Northern Parula, 1 Yellow, 6 Chestnut-sided, 1
Blackburnian, 5 Black-and-white, at least 12 American Redstart, 1 Common
Yellowthroat, 2 Canada Warbler and one Magnolia Warbler. We also saw a
large group of about a dozen Baltimore orioles, a veery, two bobolinks and a
red-breasted nuthatch along with many of the expected birds. Looks like
migration is well underway.

We then went in search of the buff-breasted sandpiper at Central Sod and I
struck out again. We did manage to find an upland sandpiper running along
the sod/plowed field edge under the irrigation pipes. All the bird activity
was in the one area south of the brick house. Danny again showed up and we
scoped the sod and found a single Baird's sandpiper - good looks at the long
wings and plain unstreaked belly - in the center of the sod area south of
the brick house. There were probably a dozen least sandpipers and 75-100
killdeer in the area and many more in the plowed fields. Overall, a very
productive August day.
