Late yesterday afternoon I had a beautiful view of a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron, perched on a log in the C&O Canal downstream of the Lock 6 lockhouse but upstream of the gravel parking lot. It was perched in the only bit of sun shining on that section of the canal and on the same semi-submerged log as the adult Black-crowned Night Herons have been perching all summer.

Early this evening I had a great (and quite prolonged) view of at least two (maybe three) adult Wild Turkeys shepherding at least 4 young Wild Turkeys on Sherwin Island, which is the island just upstream of the kayak/canoe put-in / emergency vehicle boat ramp @ the Angler's parking lot (about 1.5 miles downstream from Great Falls). Saw the turkeys from our kayaks; they were not particularly shy! What a wonderful sight. The juveniles were about half the size of the adults.

And didn't have a camera with me for either sighting.
