Those of you who receive Maryland eBird alerts or use the
Maryland eBird Google gadget may have noticed an unconfirmed
report from another birder of a Wilson's Plover today (Sunday) at
the landfill pond at Blue Mash nature trail (Montgomery County).
I wanted to post to caution people about traveling to try to see
the bird for two reasons:

(i) the bird in question has not been subsequently seen to my
knowledge. I arrived at Blue Mash when the birder who reported
the bird was leaving. I checked the pond and there were no
plovers of any kind -- not even Killdeer. Apparently they had
recently left. So I was unable to confirm or disconfirm the
report. I checked again this evening and there was only a
Killdeer together with the Pectoral Sandpipers, Lesser Yellowlegs,
and peeps that had been there earlier (together with a couple of
Green-winged Teal).

(ii) I do not know the birder who reported the bird, but for
obvious reasons there will be skepticism about such a report
without a photograph. The recent passage of a hurricane does make
at least the timing seem intriguing, though.

Good birding!
