I made a brief stop at Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center yesterday on the
way home from a very quiet morning of birding at Blackwater NWR. There were
approximately 85 Great Egrets and 117 Snowy Egrets, a single Tricolored
Heron and a couple of Great Blue Herons on what is left of the “lake”.
There was also a fair selection of common shorebirds. This would be a
worthwhile trip for anyone suffering from egret withdrawal since Hughes
Hollow is no longer the egret hotspot.
