Hi all --

With teeny puppies at home we couldn't go far, so opted for our local patch
at Wheaton Park and Brookside Gardens. The Gardens were pretty quiet
bird-wise, lots of people about, but the Park near Pine Lake and the
miniature RR tracks was jumping with a number of active flocks starting at
about 7:30 AM. Most interesting a BREWSTER'S WARBLER very similar to the
"adult female" illustrated in Sibley -- somewhat duller than a Blue-wing,
two yellow wing-bars, dark eye-line. Met a few other birders but for most of
the time it was just Barry and myself so undoubtedly we missed a lot!
Diversity was moderate -- 13 species seen -- but numbers of individuals of
some was very high. Still lots of Pewees about...

Birds of interest:

Green Heron - 2
Red-shouldered Hawk - 3
Broadwing Hawk - 1 (while driving home)
Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1
Osprey - 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird - 4
Eastern Wood-pewee - 15
Eastern Phoebe - 2
"Traill's" Flycatcher - 2 (both looked more like Willows)
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER - 1-2 (both fresh juveniles, one in same tree as
yesterday's bird, another near Pine Lake so *probably* different
individuals)
Scarlet Tanager - 8 (most were males)
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 1
Brown Thrasher - 1
Red-eyed Vireo - 25+
Yellow-throated Vireo - 1 (still singing)
WARBLING VIREO - 2
House Wren - 8
SWAINSON'S THRUSH - 1 (FOS for us)
Black-and-white Warbler - 12 at least
Black-throated Green Warbler - 8
Black-throated Blue Warbler - 2
Blackpoll Warbler - 1
BLUE-WINGED WARBLER - 3
"BREWSTER'S" WARBLER - 1 female
Canada Warbler - 1
Chestnut-sided Warbler - 4
Magnolia Warbler - ~12
American Redstart - ~15 (about 1/3 were adult males)
Northern Parula - 2 (reported by other birders)
WILSON'S WARBLER - 1 (adult male)
WORMEATING WARBLER - 1
Common Yellowthroat - 12 (conservative estimate!)
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 10
Indigo Bunting - 1 female
Chipping Sparrow - 20+ (numbers really building)

Lots of Flickers, Blue Jays, Robins and Catbirds on the move as well.
