I think a lot of us are tired of hearing about Audubon,
I was recently given "John James Audubon: the Making of an American" by
Richard Rhodes, and enjoyed it immensely. It is a fascinating book, not least
because it chronicles the environmental changes taking place in America
during Audubon's lifetime, which he himself noted. I'd be happy to loan it to
birder friends, once I get it back from my historian friend. (It's
paperback, and far less than $9.2 million.)
