Hi Everyone,

Lauren Hendley, Mike Walsh, and I counted birds and swatted mosquitoes at Bayside at Assateague this morning (16 Sept 2010). With the morning flight of egrets and herons, we had a northbound flock of 28 immature WHITE IBIS. Later Mike spotted a smaller group of White Ibis flying south--no way to know if these were some of the same birds from the larger flock or a separate group.

Winds were not favorable for a large flight of songbirds, but I did hear one Swainson's Thrush fly over before dawn, and later we had House Wrens, Cedar Waxwings, Baltimore Orioles, Bobolinks, and a variety of warblers (including Northern Parula, American Redstart, Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Black and White Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, and Common Yellowthroat). We also had our first Northern Flickers of the season and watched two make the jump from Assateague to the mainland.

Lauren will be summing the big counts from the morning flight, and we'll get them entered into eBird tomorrow.

Have fun,
