I should be seeing my last Ruby-throated
Hummingbird of the season any day now, but I am
still seeing multiple birds each day. Yesterday I
saw 5 at one time. Today is cold and rainy but I
still have at least 3 birds hanging around.
Bruce Peterjohn banded hummingbirds at my house
this summer for the 4th year. He bands on Saturday
mornings since he has job obligations during the
week. This year he banded 232 new birds and
recaptured 54 birds from past years. If he has not
been away on 2 prime weekends, we could possibly
have hit the 300 mark!
I'll soon be looking for stray western hummers.
Yesterday and today, I had a brown Purple Finch at
my feeder for an interesting juxtaposition of
winter and summer birds.

The eagle looked down on the river below
And he wrapped his wings round him and he fell
like a stone
And the big salmon fought but the talons held true
And he shuddered as the world turned from silver
to blue
