On my way back from the parking lot after taking stuff to the car, I was astounded to watch a vocal flock of Pine Siskins land on branches and wires on the edge of the parking lot.  The birds were no more than 15 feet from me, and were perched for no more than one minute.  Then they took off, heading into the neighborhood east of the farm women's market at the corner of Willow Lane and Wisconsin Avenue.
This was species #75 for my combined office window, building lobby, and parking lots list.  It was a species I never expected to see in that area, and indeed.  I saw 40 (maybe 41) species from my office windows during the many years I worked there, with the other species seen and heard in, around, or along the way to whichever parking lots I used.  Among the most memorable window birds were 3 different adult Bald Eagles, 2 different Northern Goshawks (a large immature and a small adult), and two adult Peregrine Falcons chasing a pigeon.
Insects perched on the outside of my 6th & 7th floor windows (I sat in front of three different windows) included a mantis-fly (Mantispidae), an American Snout, a Harvester (!), and a periodical cicada or two.  One morning I witnessed Monarch butterflies migrating at the rate of about 1 every 60-75 seconds for maybe 3 hours.
My next office list will be much poorer.
