Hi Everyone,

I am posting this with Norm's permission. Off topic but would be quite a find and helpful to the animal since it's getting cold. Please see information below.

There's a useful attachment on how to ID a manatee referenced below that I cannot post here but if anyone wants it email me off list and I'll forward it to them.

Good Morning,

The National Aquarium recently received several reports of a Florida manatee in the Upper Patapsco River area - both the Middle Branch and the Inner Harbor areas. Sightings have been scattered throughout the area, and little photographic evidence exists.

We are hoping that local businesses and partners might assist us in trying to track sightings of the animal and possibly document sightings as they occur with photographs. We are working very closely with the US Fish and Wildlife Service out of Florida to monitor the location of the sightings and the health of the animal - that's why photos are so important. The current water temperatures of the Upper Patapsco are quickly becoming too cold to support a manatee and its natural food source, which are submerged grasses.

We have attached a brief document that should assist you with identifying a manatee. If the manatee is spotted, please call the Aquarium's stranding pager as soon as possible (410-373-0083) or Jennifer Dittmar on her cell (443-604-6597) to report the sighting. Photos of the manatee can be sent to

We thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation in responding to this unique case involving an endangered Florida manatee. Please help us spread the word - feel free to pass this information on to staff or customers that might be in areas where the animal has been spotted. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
