Took off on election day and spent some time fossil hunting (and birding) with my girlfriend at a few sites in Calvert Co. The highlight was 4 Red-headed Woodpeckers (3 adults and 1 imm.) at Calvert Cliffs State Park. A couple of the birds were being very vocal and could be seen actively caching acorns. Very cool. Also saw Hermit Thrush and Winter Wren, a large flock (50-100) Juncos and a few sparrow flocks consisting of mostly White-throated and Song, a couple Field and Chipping. Great views of 2 adult Bald Eagles circling low over the trees.

We also stopped at North Beach on the way back and checked the bayside and the intertidal flats on the AA/Calvert line. There were 4 Dunlin feeding on the flats and 3 female Black Scoters on the bayside.

Good Birding,
