Denis Quinn and I had a superb look at a close-in immature Golden Eagle over
the trees on the Northeast River side of the hawk watch meadow shortly after
9:00 a.m. today.
We also had 20 Red-tails, 7 Red-shoulders, 5 Sharpies, 1 Coop, and an
unidentified buteo way out over the Elk River.
Bluebirds are abundant, with a flock of 20 or so feeding in the meadow; we
also heard a Red-breasted Nuthatch, and Robins continue there as well,
although their numbers are down quite a bit from the previous two weeks. We
saw four Scaup flying north.
Butterflies included Variegated Fritillary, Buckeye, and Orange Sulfur.
