In the sunlight, a brilliantly marked/contrasted Loggerhead Shrike--wide, richly black mask extending above the eye all the way to bill (compare to northern shrike if you don't know the differences off the top of your head). It was in the L-shaped, cattail swamp area on north and northeast side of the big field, around 11am. Sure was a nice surprise. I'd seen 7 of these in a couple of hours in Oregon in August, but it's much nicer to see one here.

Other nice looks: red-shouldered hawk, pileated, hermit thrush, winter wren--and fox sparrows (thinly spread but a good bet to see one or more down the maintenance road where it hits the field).
