Subject: [MDOSPREY] Northern Shrike - Irvine Nature Center

Jeff Culler and I observed the Northern Shrike at Irvine Nature Center from
3:15 - 3:30 pm today. It posed for many pictures. Take the Vista Loop south
to the gazebo and open field. The shrike was about 100 yards from the gazebo
along the row of trees, on the left side of the large field (if you are
standing in the gazebo. We walked down the middle of the field so as not to
spook the bird. Others who walked along the edge did not see it.
Narrow black mask, large bill with a wicked hook, and white above the eye.
