As I type I am watching a juvenile Cooper's Hawk enjoying a Baltimore City rat
for a late lunch or early dinner. The bird swooped into my inner city yard and
caught the rat as it skulked around the bottom of my feeders. Because the bird
can't lift the critter (City rats are big), it pulled the rat off into the
bushes and is now enjoying it. I often get young Coopers in this part of the
City during the winter. Oooops.........something spooked him and he's taken
off, rat in tow (guess it wasn't too heavy after all), to finish the meal in the
safety of a tree.
Very cool.
