After I saw Paul Pisano's post earlier about the scoters, I ran down
there with my camera, scope, binocs, Sibleys and a bagel. Naturally
the ducks were on the far side of the river and it is overcast out
there so the photos turned out lousy. But, through the scope the
ducks were clear enough to make out five female Black Scoters and one
female Surf Scoter. The Surf was with the Blacks, but not "with"
them, if you know what I mean. Always near, but not really
associating too much. The Surf had a vertical white mark near the
bill, another one behind her pale eye, and a big pale patch on her nape.
Here are the photos - apologies for the poor quality. I took about 50
photos - they all turned out lousy (at 400mm and blown up three times)

It was nice to meet Art Drauglis who showed up soon after I did.
Thanks to Frank Hawkins for finding them in the first place!!!
