Getting in a little birding this morning before the snow I stopped at
Cranberry Reservoir first. It is now ice-covered again after being
completely open for a few days. This made it easier to view the geese as
they are spread out on the ice and not moving around very much. The
White-fronted Goose was sitting on the ice in the middle of the flock. It
spent most of the time with its head tucked making it more difficult to pick
out but the thin white line on the side was showing clearly to differentiate
it plainly. It is an adult orange-billed bird.
The ducks were more difficult to see as they were crowded together in the
right corner of the reservoir but I was able to find Pintail and Ring-necked
Duck.
At the Union Mills wetland on Brown Road were two Tree Sparrows in a
flock of Song and Swamp Sparrows. At the Study Road farm pond I found Canada
Geese and Mallards (including one Duclair Duck).
The snow started about 11:15 and quckly reduced the visibility.
