I was in Ocean City the past several days expecting to do the Ocean City
CBC yesterday. Unfortunately it was postponed because of the weather, but
since I was there I might as well look at some birds. Monday and Tuesday
were both sunny and windy, wind mostly from the northwest and west (no
gannets). This morning it was sunny with no wind. I visited the inlet all
three days. I checked Skimmer Island yesterday and today and I visited the
pond at Mystic Harbour yesterday. Here is a list of the most notable species
I found in the three days:

Brant - about 400 at Skimmer Island
Gadwall - at least 50 at Mystic Harbour
Shoveler - 2 at Mystic Harbour
Pintail - 2 at Skimmer Island, 1 off Hooper's, and 1 at Mystic Harbour
Redhead - 3 in the channel off Skimmer Island today
COMMON EIDER - at least 21 at the inlet yesterday, mostly females, but
first- and second-year males also
HARLEQUIN DUCK - a pair at the inlet yesterday
Red-throated Loon - 1 at the inlet today was the only one I saw
Common Loon - 20 at the inlet
Pied-billed Grebe - 1 with the loons at the inlet today was unusual, and the
only grebe I saw in the three days
Double-crested Cormorant - 1 immature at the inlet and 1 adult near Skimmer
Island today
GREAT CORMORANT - 1 at the inlet
Bald Eagle - 2 adults flying over where I was staying at Seaward Road in
northern Ocean City yesterday
Coot - 2 at Mystic Harbour
Black-bellied Plover - 3 near Hooper's today
Killdeer - 1 at Mystic Harbour
Oystercatcher - the inlet, Skimmer Island, & near Hooper's
Turnstone - the usual gang at the inlet
KNOT - 1 at the inlet, on the north jetty yesterday and on the beach today
Sanderling - the usual gang at the inlet
Purple Sandpiper - about 40 at the inlet
Dunlin - about 10 at Skimmer Island and near Hooper's
Pipit - small flocks on Evans Road and at Hooper's today
Pine Warbler - 1 on Evans Road today
VESPER SPARROW - 1 on Evans Road today which Mark Hoffman found yesterday,
feeding on the ground in a corn stubble field with the pipits and Pine
Warbler
PINE SISKIN - 1 heard only, flying over Hooper's today

Contact Jay Sheppard if you can help with the real Ocean City CBC next
week.
