Can't disagree with you about the Masters, although the birds are singing
loudly in mid-April in Georgia.  But the story of the PGA and our intrepid
pair predates that and, I believe, is true.

No, it was definitely the Masters' and it was perhaps 4-5 years ago. The 
flap actually made the sports pages of the Post. Somehing like "Birdlovers 
Complain..." The news story explained that the sounds had all been 
dubbed in  -- no mention of same-day recording at that time. If you listen 
now you will hear the same sequences repeated over and over -- but at 
least now it's birds that actually are found in Georgia in April!
