Hi Folks!

Sorry about the earlier partial message....my smart phone sent it before I
was done writing.

There are several kinds of Cackling Geese. In Maryland the most common is
"hutchinsii", Richardson's Goose. A couple birds seen over the years look
like "minima", but this has not yet been proven. All of the geese in the
Cackling Goose Complex can have complete white neck collars at the base of the
black neck, so it is not a diagnostic feature for identifying the
subspecies.

Good Birding!

Has anyone else seen a white-collared cackling goose in Md recently? Had
one with a thick collar in with some canadas 10 days ago and it's been
eating at me. I know it's typical of the aleutian race, but can occur in other
cacg and cang races.
Curious as to how "common" it is hereā€¦
