Howdy,

Kevin Oxenrider and I birded Finzel Swamp this afternoon. We probably should have brought snowshoes. The best birds were a couple of RUFFED GROUSE. One flushed directly off the trail in front of us, and joined another chastising us from about 20 yards into the brush. Several small flocks of robins flew past us, and more were drinking water from a small hole in the ice near the parking lot, thus the good cumulative numbers of AMRO. Elsewhere in the park, it was very quiet.

Location: Finzel Swamp
Observation date: 1/14/11
Notes: w/Kevin Oxenrider. Very quiet. Flushed two RUGR just after the 1st bridge on the trail.
Number of species: 11

Ruffed Grouse 2
Turkey Vulture 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker 1
Downy Woodpecker 1

Black-capped Chickadee 13
Tufted Titmouse 2
White-breasted Nuthatch 1

Good birding!
Matt
