Bill Hubick texted to say that he and his birding cohorts had found 6 Purple
Sandpipers on the jetties at Chesapeake Beach. Jane Kostenko and I went up there
and tried unsuccessfully for at least an hour from the piers behind the Rod and
Reel Restaurant before driving up to North Beach to look along the jetties near
the public pier, also without success. On the way back south, we ducked down a
small road just to the north of the intersection of Rts. 260 and 261 which goes
back to the Veterans Memorial. We could scope out the north side of the north
jetty at the Rod and Reel and found 4 Purple Sandpipers there. According to
eBird, the only reports for Calvert County are from Jim Stasz and Bob Ringler
from 1983 and 1985! Nice find Bill!!
