I spent the last couple days in New Germany State Park for a 2-day work meeting, and although I only got to bird for about 90 minutes Tuesday afternoon and about an hour yesterday morning, I did have a flock of approx. 10 - 12 White-winged Crossbills fly over while calling at about 8:45 am yesterday (1/19/11). I did not see them very well and they did not stop but they were making their typical "je-je-je" calls, with which I am familiar. Conditions were foggy and misty and there was not much other bird activity except a few Blue Jays, about half a dozen Black-capped Chickadees and approx. 4 Common Ravens. I spent about an hour listening for owls Tuesday night (in light rain) but did not hear any.
Good Birding,
