While walking around the community today, I saw an eagle circling low near the Magothy shore and apparently trying to pick-up something in the water. It had a lot of white on its body and wings, especially on the top of its back between the wings. So at first I was thinking immature Bald Eagle. But, as I watched, I saw that the underside of the tail was mostly white with a distinct dark stripe at the end. So, now I am thinking immature Golden Eagle.
I saw it again, several minutes later, sitting on the ice on the Little Magothy River. From there, it took off, gained a lot of altitude and headed in the general direction of Sandy Point / Bay Bridge.
Also, for anybody interested, there is still a male Hooded Merganser and a raft of Canvas Backs on the Little Magothy, along with the usual Buffleheads, Canada Geese and Mallards. |
