I just posted this through the Harford Bird Club community, and thought possibly should make mention throughout the greater MD birding community as well. I do apologize if this announcement has already made the circuit and I missed it.
"Fellow Harford Birders,
This year marks the 3rd Annual Rusty Blackbird Blitz. Due to the significant decreased population numbers ( - 80 - 95% ) of Rusty Blackbirds of recent, The Smithsonian Institution through the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and it's Migratory Bird Center are compiling a national survey of Rusty Blackbirds between Janaury 29 - February 13, 2011. This program relies on us, the citizen scientist who volunteer to participate and report their findings. Their Homepage is:
http://nationalzoo.si.edu/scbi/migratorybirds/research/rusty_blackbird/blitz.cfm
Should you encounter any Rusty Blackbirds during the count period, please consider submitting your report. There is a "submit" tab on the Homepage. Information required includes: date, location, habitat, number, sex and activity (singing, foraging, etc ...).
Do keep an eye on your feeders for Rusty Blackbirds, especially in the mixed company of other blackbird species like Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackle."
Good luck,
--
