We have a male cardinal with "messed up" primary feathers on one of
his wings. He can't fly, but he is pretty feisty...hopping from the
bushes to the base of the feeder to pick at the seed on the ground.
Today he even hopped into the branches of a holly tree (about 5' off
the ground). He looks like he's in excellent condition and has lasted
a week! (We first saw him last weekend). Does anyone know when
cardinals molt? I am really hoping this plucky guy survives until he
can fly again!
