Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from February 7, 2011

       This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.
       The summary of bird observations that follows was taken by permission
from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and MD Port Administration, February
2011, Fauna Monitoring Report for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration
Project at Poplar Island.
       Note the presence of Black-crowned Night Heron, Short-eared Owl and
Carolina Wren.  This is only the second record of Carolina Wren on Poplar
Island but there have been several records of hearing them on nearby Coaches
Island.  Note also the large total numbers of Green-winged Teal.
