Earlier today John Bjerke reported to the Voice of the Naturalist (he
doesn't subscribe to MDOSPREY):
I just had a COMMON REDPOLL in Rock Creek Regional Park about a mile and a
quarter downstream from Lake Needwood.
I was walking along the Hiker/Biker Path and saw the bird near the second
wooden bridge downstream from Avery Rd. It was a probable female in winter
plumage; red forecrown, black chin, small pale finch bill, streaked back and
sides, white wing bar. There didn't seem to be any reddish blush to breast
or sides so I believe it was a female.
Date: Feb 17 at approximately 11 AM.
After several seconds perched about 10 feet away the bird flew off upstream.
I don't have write privileges on MDOsprey; if any do, please post this if
you have the time.
